Best tour I’ve experienced in Europe! Highly recommend everyone whose in San Sebastian to take this tour. Álvaro takes you to parts of the Basque Country that you will not see if you go on your own. This was my first trip to Spain/San Sebastián and was by far my favorite experience out of all my Europe trips.Saw how beautiful San Sebastián and it’s neighboring towns is thanks to Álvaro and his team!

Best of Basque Country This was my very first trip to Europe and my mother's first time visiting the northern region of Spain. We had booked our tours and travel accommodations 8 months in advance and were excited to have a no stress vacation once we arrived. The day prior to our arrival, we were informed that the English speaking tour guide from another travel tour company was sick and they didn't have a replacement guide for us. We were disappointed to say the least but what a blessing in disguise! Our hotel (Hotel Maria Cristina) arranged for Around Tours to manage the two days remaining in San Sebastian. We were picked up on time at our hotel by Alvaro. He was very professional and courteous. Tour 1 - La Rioja Wine Region Our first tour was to visit a couple wineries in the La Rioja wine region approximately 2 hours from San Sebastian. During our drive up, Alvaro discussed the history of Spain, giving us some background and an understanding about how the area came to what it is today. I was inquisitive and he was very knowledgeable which left me feeling we were in very good hands.The La Rioja wine region is a must see. The change of season was apparent with the autumn rust, red and golden colors of the grape leaves. Having a private lunch with breathtaking views that overlooked the vineyards at Torre de Ona was relaxing. The drive back to San Sebastian was planned nicely as we stopped into a small mediaeval town with architecture from the 12th and 17th century. The conversation and knowledge that Alvaro provided made the drive back to the hotel well worth the tour.Tour 2 - San Sebastian - Bilbao Along the CoastWe had a plane to catch in Bilbao on our way headed to Barcelona so we decided to make best use of our time and booked a transfer tour. The coastal drive from San Sebastian to Bilbao was by far my favorite part of Spain. The vast beauty of the Spanish coast was more than apparent during this drive. We took a small hike to view the Zumaia Flysch and its rock formations. What a view! We then drove by txakoli vineyards to the cobblestone streets of a small fishing village called Getaria. We toured the town church, walked past Cristobal Balenciaga museum (Alvaro offered a visit inside but we declined) and afterwards grabbed a cafe macchiato before heading to lunch.Our lunch spot in Zumaia was the epitome of the word Basque. Bedua Asador Restaurante had picturesque views while overlooking the Urola River. We shared squid in ink, a whole fresh wood fire grilled monkfish, mushrooms and their house crusty french bread accompanied with a glass of txakoli wine. This was the perfect finish to a wonderful tour before our hotel destination in Bilbao. Once Alvaro dropped us off at our hotel, he provided us with a small polaroid picture of my mother and I as a keepsake. His personal touches throughout the tour made our time in Spain the most memorable.If ever back in San Sebastian I will not hesitate to contact Around Tours to help navigate through my next experience in Spain. We have been on other tours during our stay in Spain and Around Tours is by far a 5 star experience.

A fantastic day out in the Basque Country Had a brilliant tour with friends expertly led by Alvaro. He was so friendly and knowledgeable and gave us lots of useful information. The transport was very comfortable and we visited two beautiful villages and a winery. We then visited Alvaro’s family cottage for wine tasting and appetisers which was delicious. Alvaro then drove us to a fabulous local restaurant that he recommended. I would highly recommend booking this tour as it was the highlight of our trip and we saw more than San Sebastián.

Amazing food tour, ask for Carlota! Had the most amazing private pintxos tour with Carlota! She is such a great guide. In addition to bringing us to the best pintxos bars, she is also so lovely and very knowledgeable about food, San Sebastián history and culture, and really made the experience incredible for us. Loved every second of it! Will be recommending this tour to my friends traveling to Spain.

It was a great insight to how the pintxo bars operate and we had some amazing food. Carlota was very knowledgeable, patient, fun and her English was great.
