Fishing Village Pasajes, Coastal Town of Hondarribia & Mount Jaizkibel
The worst part about this tour is that you will end up so taken with the beauty of it all, it will not be long enough to take it all in.
“Hey honey, the next time we visit the Basque Country let’s reserve a room in the hotel in Pasajes or even Hondarribia, okay? How peaceful! We will have to come back.”
This tour combines old historical tales with Basque fishermen, a route through the Basque coastal mountains, views of France and tranquil strolls through old village streets. All this in one morning!
What will we visit?

PASAJES: THE TOWN VICTOR HUGO FELL IN LOVE WITH
There once lived a French writer who walked the streets of San Sebastian in 1843. He wasn’t able to take a private tour because none were available at the time. So he decided to tour the lands himself. He realized soon enough that he was surrounded by innumerous sources of inspiration. Those of which existed on the outskirts of San Sebastian City.
He had heard of a nearby village inhabited by whalers, fishermen, and people of the sea. These people were ill mannered, less educated and snobbish as the people of San Sebastian, and so he was convinced to discover the lack of classicism and poise. Mr. Hugo went off to find authentic people, people of the land. Finding that rather than a lack of value, they possessed virtue.
The people of the Village of Pasajes remain to this day as captivating as they had been for Victor Hugo. He resided in Pasajes for many months, in one of the many jewels of the Basque Country.

FRANCE VIEWED FROM THE PEAK OF JAIZKIBEL
If Mount Jaizkibel could speak, it would whisper to us its fortunes. Surrounded by some of the most beautiful seaside villages, the Cantabrian Bay and France, it lies traced by many years of historical importance.
“Caressed” at its laterals by homes, the mountain roads traveled through by motorists, trekkers, and horseback riders. Its peaks are enjoyed by honeymooners on a summer’s evening, including cows, sheep and wild horses.

HONDARRIBIA: THE MOST BEAUTIFUL
They say Hondarribia is the most beautiful village on the Basque coast. Daring to say so,
but those who have lived there their whole lives would lay their life on it.
Why is that you may ask? The town has preserved its authentic Basque architecture, fishermen homes lined with floral decorations, colorful painted wooden beams and an 16th century fortress that lies in the square of the old city. El Parador de Carlos V, with views stretching over France, one of the most expressive panoramics worth waiting for. And let’s not forget about their celebrated gastronomic trends…
